Church School
We are on our Summer Schedule. Classes are on break until Sept 13.
Summer activities will be posted here – check back often!
During the school year we have weekly classes during our regular Sunday worship service starting in September at 10:00-11:15 am. Join us Sundays for church school, or email ce@pilgrimsherborn.org.
Church School is offered to children Pre-K through 8th Grade from the first Sunday after Labor Day through mid-June, with some exclusions for holidays. Professional childcare for infants and toddlers to age three is available year round.
Sunday morning church school is grounded in the God’s Great Commandment: to love God, love our neighbors and love ourselves. We are committed to providing a place for young people for growth in their Christian faith and service to others. We share information about the essential stories of the Bible and our Christian faith, seek formation of compassionate and responsible Christian discipleship, and hope for transformation of lives through maturing faith.

8th Grade Programs
Human Sexuality from a Christian Perspective
Sunday nights, mid-September to early December, 6-8 pm
Fall class, offered in partnership with the Dover Church UCC, helps young people reach informed, healthy, smart decisions about their God-given sexuality and maturing relationships with others, all in the context of their Christian faith. A nine-week course, it is based on the UCC’s Our Whole Lives, and is led by trained adult teachers, including medical doctors.
Confirming Our Faith
Sunday nights at church, early January to mid-spring, 6-8 pm
8th grade youth are invited to participate in a sixteen week class that asks young people to consider the basic beliefs of our faith, the meaning of being a Christian, and the choice to become a full member of the Church. Led by Pastor John and assistant volunteer advisors, this engaging class offers a chance for youth to dig into their faith in a fun environment. Meetings include a parent prepared dinner each week for time of fellowship, and activities with peers and adult mentors from our congregation.

Senior Youth Group
Sunday nights during school year 6:45 – 8:15 pm
Open to all 9th-12th graders regardless of church affiliation. Explore Christian values in the complicated world, have fun with peers, and serve others. We boast members from ten different school systems! Our weekly meetings feature dinner and a program, and are led by a core of volunteer advisors and our High School Youth Minister. The meals are served by parent volunteers, a great way to be involved and to give.
Activities include service projects, discussions, interactive games, a fun fall yard sale fundraiser, youth-led Christmas and Easter worship services. Also, there is an annual April vacation mission trip where we spend time helping others while building community with each other. Some of the destinations in the past have included trips to New Orleans, Puerto Rico, New Mexico, D.C., New York and Appalachia to work in partnership with God’s people in need. We have a great trip planned for this year!
We welcome you to join us!

A Typical Sunday
Gathering
Students begin worship with their families in the sanctuary. During the service the children are called forward to sit in the front of the sanctuary for Children’s Time, where the Pastor shares a story with the children about the lesson for the day. The children then leave the sanctuary and go to their classes.
Classes
Classes are taught in a rotation manner. Children are grouped by age and will learn in the rotation each week. They are evenly distributed and will perform a different activity each week.
Curricula
“Spark Rotation” is a Bible lectionary-based curriculum, which helps students make connections among church, home, faith and life. Many Sundays the curriculum follows the same text used in worship. The rotation model helps kids learn at their level. They interact with the Bible in the lesson to help navigate the story and begin to compare what they learn to their own life. It is a hands on curriculum with interactive workshops that feature activities, games, and creative crafts.
Teachers
Parents, high school students and adult members of our congregation teach six-week sessions. Lots of training, support, resources and encouragement are available!
Family Worship
Pilgrim Church encourages intergenerational worship by integrating young people into the regular worship life of the church and creating unique worship services which are “family friendly” in design. Church school students serve as acolytes, greeters, ushers and lay leaders on the second Sunday of each month. Special family services include Christmas Eve Service, Family Communion Service, Easter Service, Confirmation, and Youth Sunday.
Nursery Care
Our nursery offers children, six weeks to 36 months, loving care while parents are in worship. Staffed by a professional child-care adult and two student assistants from our congregation, it is offered 9:30 am to 11:30 am September through June and from 8:45-10:15 am during the summer.
Other Activities
Other activities include children’s choirs, service projects, and special observances: Bible Sunday (presentation of Third Grade Bibles), A Christmas Tableau, Youth Sunday, and a year-end celebration.
