What to Expect on Sundays

On site services temporarily suspended – join us online.

ARRIVAL: You will be greeted by our minister and ushers. On your first visit, please visit the Welcome Table (just inside the front doors on the first floor) for a name tag and to fill out a Welcome Card. Church members and friends wear nametags, which help us get to know each other.

ATTIRE: Please wear what you are comfortable in. People’s attire ranges from casual to dressy.

WORSHIP: We gather together with music, song and space for prayers. We share our joys and concerns and some holy wisdom, to bring into our lives. Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month. We have an open table where all are invited to come, no exceptions.

Worship happens upstairs, in our second floor sanctuary. Toward the beginning of service children PreK – 8th grade are invited to come to the front of the church for a special message from Pastor John. Then children and youth are led downstairs to learn more about God and faith in an atmosphere of play and fun and care. After worship many of us stay for a social and coffee hour: to talk, to connect and to be in community. All are welcome!

CHILDCARE & CLASSES: Children visit the church school or attend the service with you. If you need to you can move downstairs to listen to the service in Fellowship Hall. Ushers can help you find whatever you need.

PARKING: You can park in front of the church and in the church lot across the street; additional parking is available near the library or town hall.

Child Care & Church School

6 weeks old to 36 months:
Nursery care is available for children 6 weeks old to 36 months while parents are in worship. Our nursery is staffed by a professional childcare adult and two student assistants from our congregation. Nursery care is offered from 9 am to noon, September through June, and from 8:45 am -10:15 am during the summer.

Pre-K thru 8th Grade:
Children three years old and up begin worship with their families in the sanctuary. During our service Children’s Time the children are called forward to sit in the front of the sanctuary, when the Pastor shares a story just for them about the lesson for the day. The children then leave the sanctuary and go to their Church School classes. On Communion Sundays (the first Sunday of each month), students go directly to class.

Music & Art

Here at Pilgrim Church we believe that the arts are essential in enriching worship, encouraging creative interaction among members and connecting the church to the community. The Sacred Arts committee plans programs with the Pastor, Music Director, Staff, other committees and members of the congregation which are held throughout the year. They may include music, written word, visual arts, field trips and more.

We integrate vibrant, joyful and sacred music into our Sunday morning worship hour. Each worship service includes organ preludes and postludes, anthems by the Chancel Choir and hymns sung by the congregation from the Pilgrim Hymnal as well as other sources.

On many occasions throughout the year we have other ensembles which provide music for services. These include our Senior and Junior Handbell Choirs, the Cherub and Children’s Choirs, the Pilgrim Band,  student musicians, and more! Pilgrim Church is blessed with many talented musicians and their gifts form the core of our praise to God.

For more information about the choirs and special music, contact Music Director David Tiedman: (508) 655-1667 (ext. 17) or davetiedman@pilgrimsherborn.org.
