Zero Carbon, Zero Bills

A presentation by David Green

In case you missed it, you can watch the recorded presentation on Youtube. Learn on how to reduce your house’s carbon footprint while saving money doing it.

Watch the “Zero Carbon, Zero Bills” Presentation

David Green, a local resident, will explain how he retrofitted his 1970s home to achieve net zero emissions while realizing a 15% return on the investment. As David says, “My zero energy retrofit beats my 401(k)”. He is the author of Zero Carbon Home and Zero Carbon Pool.

David is a physicist by training and has a solid understanding of technologies like solar panels, heat pumps, and low-E, triple-glazed windows. He also has an MBA from Harvard Business School and spent 20 years as President or CEO of private and public companies. He has kept detailed records of his heating oil use and his electricity use in order to measure the effect of each improvement made to his home. His results are based on his own experience rather than generalized claims made by manufacturers or installers.

David will explain his decisions to use certain technologies and avoid others. He will focus on both reducing emissions and the financial benefits of the technologies he chose (as well as the reasons he did not choose other available technologies).

If you are ready to spend 40 minutes on a talk about reducing your ever climbing electricity, oil and gas bills, we invite you to Zoom along with us on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

The Upper Charles Climate Action, a node of 350.MA, is offering a free and informative presentation by local author and “Green Guru”, David Green via Zoom. He will be presenting a talk about how he retrofitted his 1970’s home and pool to have a zero-carbon footprint with no electric or oil bills! With the use of heat pumps, solar panels, new efficient windows, and the like, he has saved thousands of dollars annually.

What will I learn from this webinar?

1. What additions to your home will cut both your bills and cut your carbon emissions, which common additions will not, and what order to do them in.

2. What questions you should always ask of a heat pump or solar panel installer.

3. The answer to any question you have about cutting bills and carbon emissions. The Q&A often goes on for over an hour and David will stay on the call until the last person’s question gets answered. You will get independent, scientifically rigorous, and financially sound advice from someone who has done it.

April 27 Zoom Meeting

Following introductions and why people are participating and what they would like to see happen, this website and links were reviewed and explored with a shared screen to see what is available and how to use it. The consensus is that we need to involve as many people as possible and focus of achieving Level 1. Note: The intention is to engage with others in the congregation, family and community rather than spent time meeting and to share that experience and action.
